Why is Spyware so Dreadful?

Spyware as the name sounds are dreadful in nature, but there are certain aspects that one needs to understand it better. The technology behind spyware came into being for the benefit of advertising companies by installing tracking softwares into computer systems which ultimately becomes a host to the spyware. It then gathers information and statistical data even though they assure not to collect sensitive data in the softwares security policy.

It is however a known fact that a PC functions a live server, and is open to any kind of information dissemination with or without the user consent. This fact is misused by the spyware technology that uses the information gathered to be passed on to the spyware author, who takes illicit use of it.

Spyware and Adware, though belongs to the same family, differ in their own way. Spyware when compared to Adware tends to be dangerous than Adware any time. The interference of Spyware can affect the user privacy, slow-down computer's effectiveness, windows' pop-ups of undesirable ads, and spam e-mails. Spywares usually piggyback themselves onto legal softwares. Some even are disguised to be anti-spyware programs.

Now to answer the question, how does the Spyware turn out to be dreadful? Unlike virus, it does not self replicate but infects computers for commercial gain. It is easy to gain access to already infected computers. The tracking technology used in spyware tracks down your online activities recording your web history and the sites visited often and sends this information to spyware authors who might in turn sell them to advertising agencies for profit. They also tend to bombard you with pop-up advertisements which will be subject to your annoyance. They can be even more dangerous by tracing the keystrokes and the spyware authors find vital personal information from this. This can be your passwords, credit card essentials, which can lead to “identity theft”.

The effects of spyware on computer resources are also crucial. The spyware, once they get installed, has the possibility of installing additional components too. Unlike virus attacks, these may not be evident initially. The symptoms can be slowly experienced and affects the computer’s performance deliberately. It affects the network traffic, uses up the disk space and resources for its components which gradually slows down the system and lead to a system crash. Finally you will be required to replace the entire unit.

Sometimes an expert technical assistance will be required for the badly infected computers. Reinstalling of software will be a must to cure your infected system.
