Prevent Infection of Mitware Adware

If you came across adware like Mitware, you want to get rid of it immediately.  This piece of adware is potentially very dangerous.  Some people consider adware a useful tool that supports Web designers and marketers to make websites and products user friendly.  I consider Mitware an invasion of privacy.

Mitware displays ads on your computer by way of pop-ups, pop-unders, links, and advertisement banners.  It will allow 3rd parties to spy on your browsing activities and use it to their advantage.  Basically, your private information is at risk of identity theft, computer viruses, and functioning like a snail.  Adware quietly plants itself in your your file system and computer start-up.  It will modify your browser settings, including your home page and search pages.

Some symptoms that are unique to Mitware include offensive pornographic pop-ups and  other questionable and intrusive third party advertisements.  This particular adware is a gateway to other spyware programs that will begin showing false and deceptive security warnings.  It usually comes as a bundle with a Trojan.  The advertisements will continue to regenerate when the program isn't running.

The actual adware won't harm your computer.  The danger of adware is in who is allowed to look through the window that the file created.  You have no way of telling what information is of interest to 3rd party viewers.  Being prey to adware is never a good thing.

There are some cookies that I find useful.  Have you ever deleted all your cookies only to find out that the passwords you had saved for your e-mail, PayPal account, and other commonly used reputable sites are now deleted?  You have to go back in and reset everything.  It is hard to tell which cookies you need and which ones harm you.

If you use Internet Explorer or Firefox, you can go to Tools and click "Options."  In this section you can decide to allow cookies.  You may want to block all 3rd party cookies.  Typically, adware and spyware lurk here.  You can also view a list of all the cookies that are in your system.

Deleting adware like Mitware is definitely a good idea.  Sometimes, you won't be able to clearly tell what you want and what you want to get rid of.  Finding a good anti-spyware program will do that for you.  If you run an anti-spyware program that reports a huge number of cookies, be suspicious.  Some anti-spyware does not use technology that can tell the difference between the good and the bad.

If you have Mitware on your system, it deposits at least thirty files.  A good anti-spyware program picks up all of these and reports it as one instead of 30 infections.  A good program will detect the difference between something you voluntarily download and something that you picked up unknowingly.  This is hugely convenient if you have passwords or login information saved.  Spend some time on the Internet.  Look around for a company that has received recognition.  Do they have a 100% removal guarantee within 24 hours?  Can they stand behind their name?
